Ted Conklin, M.D.
Dr. Conklin is the Chairman, Chief Medical Officer and founder of Carena. He has more than 14 years of clinical experience as a family practitioner. After completing his residency at Oregon Health Sciences University, he spent eight years as a Clinical Assistant Professor with the University of Washington Medical School teaching in Swedish Hospital’s Family Practice Residency program. He also served as Assistant Chief of Family Medicine, Chief of Family Medicine and as a Quality Management Representative at Swedish Medical Center. From 1995 to 1998, Dr. Conklin worked with Swedish Partners Medical Group. In 1998 he founded Elliott Bay Physicians, which soon became Carena’s first contracted medical group.
Dr. Conklin is a member of the Washington State Medical Society, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Association and is Board Certified in the specialty of Family Medicine. He is licensed to practice medicine in the state of Washington and was named one of “Seattle’s Top Docs” by his peers in 2000 and 2002, as reported in Seattle Magazine. He holds a bachelor’s and an MD degree from Tufts University and has completed Post Graduate Training at Oregon Health Sciences University, Family Medicine.
Ralph C. Derrickson
Ralph is President and CEO of Carena. He has served as an advisor to Carena since its founding. Prior to joining Carena, Ralph was Managing Director of Venture Investments at Vulcan Capital. He is a founding partner of Watershed Capital, and is the managing member of RCollins Group, LLC. He serves on the board of directors of Perficient (NASDAQ: PRFT).
Ralph is on the faculty of the Michael G Foster School of Business at the University of Washington, and is a member of the Executive Advisory Board of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Washington. He is a member of the President’s Circle of the National Academy of Sciences, The National Academy of Engineering and the Institute of Medicine. Ralph holds a bachelor’s degree from Rochester Institute of Technology.
Peg Carver
Peg is Vice President of Client Services at Carena. She has worked in the health care industry for nearly 20 years, with expertise in communications, client services, products and health care management. Most recently, she served as Vice President of Consumer Engagement for Optum, a division of UnitedHealth Group that provides personal health management programs to 27 million members nationwide. Prior to Optum, Peg was Vice President of Healthcare Operations for SHPS, a health management and employee benefits administration company. She has also worked for the American Red Cross, Virginia Mason Medical Center and as a television news reporter for various stations in the Midwest. Peg graduated from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.
Mike Viles
Mike is Vice President of Technology at Carena. Prior to joining Carena, he ran Wind River Consulting, an IT consulting company specializing in operational process, technical staffing, data security, system architecture and technology infrastructure management, with clients in the U.S. and Europe. Before that, Mike was Director of Internet Operations at The Walt Disney Internet Group. Mike has worked in information technology for more than 18 years and received his degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
Jennifer Ewing
Jennifer is Vice President of Sales at Carena. She has worked in the employee benefits and health insurance industry for more than 18 years in various national sales and account management capacities for both public and private sectors clients. Most recently, Jennifer served in sales and account management leadership roles for the national and major accounts segments at Humana. She previously held sales, account management, and sales leadership roles with Aetna. Jennifer graduated from Indiana University and serves as a board member for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kentucky.
Jeffrey Hussey, Member of the Board
Jeff co-founded F5 Networks in February 1996. He served as a director through 2004, guiding F5 from start-up to a market capitalization of more than $2.5 billion. During F5’s 10-year history, Jeff has served as Chairman of the Board, CEO and President, Chief Strategist and Treasurer. Prior to co-founding F5, Jeff was Vice President of Alexander Hutton Capital LLC, an investment banking firm, and served as President of Pacific Comlink, an inter-exchange carrier he founded in 1993 that provides frame relay and Internet access services to the Pacific Rim. Today, Jeff manages Fluid Capital, LLC, and serves as an advisor and board member for several start-up companies. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Seattle Pacific University and an MBA from the University of Washington.
Dennis P. Weston, Member of the Board
Denny is Senior Managing Director of Fluke Venture Partners II, a venture capital fund focusing on early-stage, high-growth companies in the Pacific Northwest. One of the most experienced venture capitalists on the West Coast, Denny currently serves on the boards of Pacific Star Communications, Inc., and PayScale, Inc., and has previously served on the boards of many other for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. Denny holds a bachelor’s degree from Central Washington University and an MBA from the University of Washington. He was recognized as a Distinguished Alumnus for the Central Washington College of Business in 1996 and received the University of Washington’s 2004 Outstanding Entrepreneurial Leadership Award.
John Kaiser, Member of the Board
John Kaiser, a native of Seattle, has spent more than 25 years in the international freight business, including 15 years with Circle Airfreight as Executive Vice President. He founded Expeditors International in 1979 and retired as President and Chairman in 1988. Since his retirement, he built Seattle’s Elliott Bay Marina and Foss Landing Marina in Tacoma. John previously served on the board of Seattle Children's Home and today serves on the boards of Knowledge Anywhere, Elliott Bay Marina and Foss Landing. He is married with two daughters.
